“Running is not my thing”

What I have said many, many times. Why? Because it was crazy painful 😣 I suffer from IT band syndrome, it happens when the connective tissue extending from the pelvic bone to the shinbone becomes so tight that it rubs against the thighbone and as a result my knees hurt a lot.
One of the reasons I started strength training was because my orthopedic said I had work on my leg muscles, to make them stronger, and that maybe it would help with the pain.
I started and after 3-4 years of strength training running was still very painful, not as easy as the doctor made it seemed. I have done a couple of 5k, usually by mile 1 I have to stop because it starts hurting so bad and I have to continue by walking.
But!! During these last couple of months I have been able to run 2 miles several times without pain 🤩 🎉 When I start feeling the pull I continue walking and next day my knees feel fine {pain used to last a couple of days}.
So what’s different? This last year I started to incorporate more yoga into my weekly workouts. I do yoga and/or stretching at least 2 times a week. Today I was able to run two miles again with no pain.
I celebrate because I have reached another goal in my wellness journey. And I can tell you
for sure that it does take time and patience and commitment, but it does pay off!! Keep going💪🏼
